Coup

You head a family in a corrupt Italian city-state, and the goal is to be the last one with any influence left. Influence is two face-down character cards. You start with those and two coins.

On your turn you can claim any character's action, whether you hold that card or not. Anyone can challenge you. Get caught bluffing and you lose an influence; get challenged while telling the truth and the challenger loses one, and you swap your card for a new one. The deck is 15 cards, three each of five characters:

• Duke: take three coins; block foreign aid
• Assassin: pay three coins to assassinate a character
• Contessa: block an assassination
• Captain: steal two coins; block stealing
• Ambassador: exchange cards with the Court deck; block stealing

Anyone can also take Income (one coin), Foreign Aid (two) or pay seven for a Coup, which forces a player to lose an influence. At ten coins you have to Coup. The optional Inquisitor can replace the Ambassador: exchange one card, or look at an opponent's card and make them redraw; also blocks stealing.
